What is Microdermabrasion?

The process of microdermabrasion uses fine micro-crystals to gently remove dead skin, oil deposits and debris through deeper than regular exfoliation, as well as to stimulate and polish the top layer of skin either on your face or body. This promotes cellular regeneration & rejuvenation, which in turn smoothes and softens the outer layer of skin.

Microdermabrasion mildly exfoliates the top layer of the skin in order to remove superficial scarring. It strips a very, very fine layer of skin, about 10 - 15 microns, but thicker than the layer removed by regular facials, where old acne scar cells are stuck.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure where tiny particles "sand" or "polish" the skin and gradually remove scarred or discolored epidermal tissue. Microscopic studies have supported the effectiveness of microdermabrasion. BIOSKINEXFOL™ is best for raised or flat scars and for rough stretch marks and for old ice pick acne scars. This product is the same as BIOSKINCARE™ CREAM but infused with micro-crytals so that you may rub it on old scars, usually very hard and tough, so that the physical breakdown achieved by  microdermabrasion helps the enzymes in the cream to dissolve the scars more quickly.

Microdermabrasion evolved from a technique called dermabrasion. Dermabrasion has been around for decades and was used to treat severe scarring by polishing the uppermost surface of the skin with an abrasive, metallic attachment. This highly effective technique requires recovery time, not to mention anesthesia. Microdermabrasion is gifted with a gentler, less invasive skin-resurfacing technology. And, there is no risk of dyschromia on darkly pigmented individuals.

Skin Remodeling is the Key to Scar Reduction
The removal or reduction of scars, lesions, and stretch marks from the skin depends on a process called "skin remodeling". The skin is designed to heal wounds quickly to prevent blood loss and infection. Scars are manufactured from a rapidly formed "collagen glue" that the body deposits into an injured area for protection and strength.

In ideal skin healing, wounded skin is rapidly closed, then the healed area is slowly reconstructed to remove the residual collagen scars and blend the skin area into nearby skin. Scar collagen is removed and replaced with a mixture of skin cells and invisible collagen fibers. This skin remodeling may continue in a skin area for ten years. In children the remodeling rate is high and scars are usually rapidly removed from injured skin areas. But as we reach adulthood, this rate diminishes and small scars may remain for years.

One way to accelerate remodeling is to induce a small amount of controlled skin damage with a needle, laser, microdermabrasion, scrubbing massage or other means, and then let the body repair processes rebuild the skin area.
